Don’t Put those Binoculars Away: November Environmental Education Events with Bedford Audubon

As autumn passes by and Thanksgiving approaches, we hope you’ll take some time for yourself to appreciate nature. Grab your binoculars and join us for a bird walk (or lecture), and let us help you see new things.

Tuesday, November 6, 7:30am-9:30am, First Tuesday Bird Walk– Dean’s Bridge, Somers. Meet at the eastern end of Dean’s Bridge Road in Somers where it dead-ends at the old bridge. Cost: Free.  Level of Physical Difficulty: Easy-moderate. Register with Susan at info@bedfordaudubon.org or 914-302-9713.

Wednesday, November 7, Lecture: Restoring Puffins and Terns to the Maine Coast with Pete Salmansohn- Let’s learn about how a team of young biologists attempted to restore the world’s first lost seabird colony with the transplanting of Canadian puffin chicks to a former nesting island in Maine. Also to be discussed will be advances in tern restoration and a look at some of the many challenges that face wildlife managers in a changing and dynamic eco-system. Pete Salmansohn is the presenter, he is an educator for Audubon, and was named Maine’s Environmental Educator of the Year in 1998 and in 2001. Pete has led hundreds of public boat cruises to see puffins on Eastern Egg Rock, MainePlease join us for refreshments at 7:00 pm, lecture begins at 7:30pm. Free. Katonah Village Library.  

Saturday, November 10,Special Field Trip: Leader’s Choice with Naturalist-in-Residence Tait Johansson.  November is the best month for rarities – while we may not be chasing a Forked-tailed Flycatcher, Tait will scout out the latest and greatest for the group to see. Time and location to be determined!  Will start in morning; within 1 ½ hrs. drive of Westchester.  Please register with Susan at info@bedfordaudubon.org or 914-302-9713.

Thursday, November 15, 7:30am-9:30am, Third Thursdays Bird Walk-Maple Avenue, Katonah.  Join Naturalist Tait Johansson at this local hotspot at Maple Avenue on the third Thursday of every month. Cost: Free.  Level of Physical Difficulty: Easy. Please register with Susan at info@bedfordaudubon.org or 914-302-9713.
