Bedford Audubon's bird-A-Thon 2024 weekend

Bird any time between Friday, May 3 through Sunday May 5

Join the Flock – Don’t Miss out on the Fun!

Spring is on its way, and millions of migratory birds are winging their way north on their long journey home. Very soon our familiar backyard birds-the thrushes, tanagers, warblers, orioles, grosbeaks and buntings will return filling our spring mornings with color and song.

Birds are a priceless part of our heritage; they reflect the health of our environment. But birds and the habitats they need to survive are in trouble. This is why we are asking you to join us in supporting Bedford Audubon’s 2024 bird-a-thon to raise funds for our education and conservation programs.

This year our goal is to raise $25,000 to ensure we can fulfill habitat management on our properties for nesting species like Wood Thrushes and Blue-winged Warblers.

There are several ways to participate. No matter your preference, there is a category in our bird-a-thon that you can participate in and even win prizes for your efforts! Please join us by:

  • Forming a team of your own
  • Joining one of Bedford Audubon’s teams
  • Financially supporting our efforts to raise funds for education and habitat preservation.

We all know the environmental challenges humans and birds face and how daunting they can seem. And that is why you should join our Bird-A-Thon. It is a fun and uplifting way to support local conservation efforts that tie into conservation efforts that span all the flyways of the Americas. So get out with friends, see a lot of birds and the beautiful landscapes they inhabit, all while supporting Bedford Audubon’s local conservation work.

How It Works

Bird-A-Thon team members collect pledges from sponsors to raise money based on either the number of species you’ll see in a 24-hour period or through a straightforward donation to Bedford Audubon. Pledges range from 25¢ up right up to hundreds of dollars for each species spotted.

You can do it alone, with a group of old friends, or meet new friends by joining one of Bedford Audubon’s teams. You don’t have to be an expert – some people even do Bird-A-Thons from their couch, counting the visitors to their feeder. Others cover dozens of miles in a day, racking up over 200 species in some areas. The key is to have fun!

This is a friendly and informative competition to help you learn more about the birds and conservation needs of our area while you help support Bedford Audubon protect these birds and their habitats. It’s easy:

  • Pick a 24-hour period between 12:01 am on Friday, May 3 till 3 pm on Sunday, May 5 to identify as many species as possible.
  • Select a level of competition that works for your team. There are prizes for all levels!
  • Choose the geographic range within the NY/NJ/CT tri-state area where you’ll do your birding.
