Why I’m so passionate about Bedford Audubon:

The welcoming, supportive community here is the reason I am so passionate about Bedford Audubon. To me, Bedford Audubon is more than just a resource for educational programming, conservation research and expertly guided walks. Bedford Audubon is a community of people sharing a love of birds and the environment, and a commitment to their protection.

More about me:

Now that our children are grown, my husband Jeff and I are “empty nesters” living right here in Katonah. While my background in documentary film did not exactly prepare me for my role here at Bedford Audubon, my love of nature, my passion for environmental protection, and my volunteer spirit certainly have.

My favorite bird is:

I like to say that my favorite bird is any bird that lands on a leafless branch and stays there long enough for me to get a good look at it. But the truth is, I have a few favorites. I love the Scarlet Tanager. It’s amazing to me that a bird so brilliantly colored can be so tricky to find. And I love the Harlequin Duck. Strikingly handsome, the Harlequin Duck opened my eyes to how incredibly beautiful, elegant and diverse ducks can be. I love the female Red-winged Blackbird. Completely different in color and pattern to her male counterpart, but gorgeous in her own right, the female Red-winged Blackbird is such an awesome example for me of the overlooked beauty of female birds. (And I have a soft spot for the Carolina Wren – specifically the Carolina Wren who sings LOUDLY in my yard and plays on my front porch and peeks in my windows like an adorable little creep.)
